Our response to the coronavirus situation (20 March 2020)

We’ve always done whatever we can to help young people across Gloucestershire fulfil their potential by making the music they want to make.

Until now, most of that has been done in-person.

In response to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the UK, that is going to have to change.

BUT we’re still going to do whatever we can to help young people across Gloucestershire fulfil their potential by making the music they want to make!

It’s just going to work a bit differently for a while…

The best advice at the moment is that everyone who is able to should be staying at home, avoiding social gatherings and generally doing as much as possible to cut down their contact with other people.

We want to keep people safe and follow that advice – so we’re changing the way we work.

Current activities

Sadly, we’ve had to put an immediate stop on all our face-to-face work: no more in-person classes, no more mentoring sessions, no more gigs – until the advice and situation changes.

For the time being, all our staff will be working from home.

We’re really going to miss meeting up with all the young people we work with! 😭

If you have a session or a class already booked in with us, and you’re not sure what this means for you, please email us on info@themusicworks.org.uk

New things

BUT, even though we’re having to stop our in-person work, we’re determined to find ways to keep young people making music in this strange new time.

We’re looking at creating online resources, maybe some videos, maybe group training sessions by videoconference, maybe one-to-one support sessions by FaceTime…we will find a way! We’re still making these plans but we’ll keep you posted on what we come up with in the very near future.

We know that music has always been an amazing way for young people to express themselves, to share experiences with each other and the outside world – and we see, all the time, the amazing good it does for people’s mental health, happiness and general wellbeing. All of that is only going to become more important in the months ahead. So we’re not stopping!

Hope to see you very soon. Stay safe!
